Squaw Alpine

This storm is a mixed bag of weather! Our mountains are being hammered with wind, rain and snow. We picked up 10” of new snow on the upper mountain last night, 12″ in 24 hours. Snow levels started off high (7000-8000’) but are sinking down to the base as temps get colder over the next 24 hour period.

Be prepared for extremely limited operations today and tomorrow due to challenging weather. We are recording ridge top gusts of 118 mph this morning and we expect sustained high winds through tomorrow. If conditions allow, Squaw plans to operate Far East, Exhibition, First Venture and Squaw Creek.  Red Dog is currently on maintenance closure and requires a few days of clear weather to repair. At Alpine Meadows, upper mountain lifts are not likely to operate.

Sweet Spring Powder Turns

Squaw Alpine

After a calm and clear Saturday, Sunday’s storm charged in and dropped 7” of new snow. High winds closed down much of the upper mountain. We measured gusts of 79 mph at the top of Siberia and, even down at the base winds were whipping through The Village. Winds are forecast to decrease today but may still be high enough to challenge lift operations. We anticipate gusts of around 45+ mph.

Lingering snow showers should yield a couple inches of accumulation today. We may see a little sunshine peeking out between showers. Enjoy the new snow!

Sunshine & Pow, Love Spring Time

Squaw Alpine

A foot of new snow since Tuesday really turned conditions back towards winter! Yesterday felt like a totally different season than the full on spring skiing we were doing on Monday. Siberia Bowl was a pleasant surprise- we had a blast charging through a foot of dense powder. Today we’ll catch a short sunny break in the weather, then we’re back to a week of snow.

This Sunday, don’t miss the Mothership Classic to benefit the High Fives Foundation. A true marathon day, brave skiers & riders lay down as many hot laps on KT-22 (aka the Mothership) as they can from resort open to close. Nostalgic ski attire is encouraged!

Bring your friends and family to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows this spring. Passholders of other resorts can now shred at the Spring Skiing Capital for just $52 a day into June & July 4th.

TAHOE SKI AND RIDE REPORT

Thursday, March 16, 2017

As this spring weather pattern continues, we’ve been seeing a lot of short sleeves & sunglasses out on the mountain. Whether you’re slashing through soft bump lines or cruising down silky corduroy, it’s a seriously good time out there. This stretch of sunshine lasts through the week. By this weekend, we may start to transition back to winter. Temps are forecasted to cool off and precipitation is heading our way.

TAHOE SKI AND RIDE REPORT

Wednesday, March 8, 2017

Red Dog and Squaw Creek will be closed to the public today through Saturday, March 11th, for World Cup preparation and races.

The forecast is starting to look up with sunny skies and warm temps today through our World Cup weekend. The winds are expected to diminish and the temperatures are going to be in the mid 40’s, making it the perfect day to hit the slopes! Yesterday, we were able to open Granite Chief and the conditions were amazing. Today, Silverado will be the place to be if we’re able to reset boundaries and groom an access road.

The FIS World Cup begins tomorrow at 4:15 PM with the Community Kickoff Parade in the Squaw Village followed by a free concert featuring Dustbowl Revival. Check out the World Cup page on our website for more details on this awesome event!

TAHOE SKI AND RIDE REPORT

Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Yet another clear and sunny day for us here at Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows and we are loving it! The temperatures have been very cold overnight which has been keeping the snow in prime condition out on the slopes. It’s looking like the place to be is up off of Silverado based on all the hooting and hollering that can be heard coming from that direction. The sun is out and the snow is obviously the best we’ve seen in a long time, so there is no excuse for you not to be up here with us!

TAHOE SKI AND RIDE REPORT

Monday, February 27, 2017

A quick storm charged in yesterday and dropped 6″ of new snow on our mountains helping to keep the surface conditions nice and soft. As the system moved in, winds increased to gusts of 100+ mph, causing lift delays and closures yesterday. As quickly as the storm came in, it blows out today. Light snow showers and winds diminish throughout the day and we are looking ahead to a stretch of clear weather. 13 lifts are on schedule at Alpine Meadows today and 24 at Squaw Valley.

TAHOE SKI AND RIDE REPORT

Sunday, February 26, 2017

We’re enjoying a nice long stretch of chilly temps this week. Highs are hovering in the 20’s, ideal temps for preserving snow quality. Light snow showers have passed through the region for the past few days. We’ve picked up a couple inches of accumulation each day, keeping the slopes buttery smooth.

Snow showers intensify this evening and we could see 6-9” of fresh snow by tomorrow morning. Today will be breezy and we may see winds increase as the weather moves in. We expect 40 mph mountain top gusts today to increase to 60 mph by tonight.
